With the theoretical framework of the Grammar of Pain by L. Wittgenstein and the scientific legacy of Australian linguist M. Halliday regarding the particular structure of the language of pain, our educational model was tested in the training research program HIPIONI with children and adolescents, before being developed into this book, featuring innovative linguistic teaching practices for managing and raising awareness about the language of pain.
The pain of childbirth, the cry of a child, illness, separation, the anxiety of youth for the future, the "harsh" words that hurt, disappointment, the generations of economic crisis, refugee status, the fear of death, and so many other contemporary painful issues form structures in the linguistic awareness of a reality that is a constant companion in our lives and requires resilient and optimistic handling through our ongoing linguistic education and mindset.
The fight against any insensitive behavior is a necessity for survival, a right of every human being, and a teaching proposal for a "linguistic education of compassion." The Language of Pain and its metaphors concern specialists in language teaching, pedagogy, linguistics, medicine, sociology, and generally human communication. It primarily concerns every person who has hurt as a child and reflects on the role of pain in our existential state, with the understanding and achievement of well-being.
