Very mediocre book. It's not worth buying if you can borrow it from a friend or from the library. The plot is mediocre and the author tries to address too many issues within such a small book, losing the meaning. If it were a revenge book and nothing else, it would be very good. Lackberg wanted to write a book about the social and other difficulties a woman experiences, and all she managed to do is make you dislike both the protagonist's husband and her equally.

I just finished this book and it was amazing! A girl who has experienced patriarchy, domestic violence, and the disgusting mentality of a closed society like "We don't get involved in other people's homes," "Everyone looks after their own work and home," "It doesn't concern us," etc. Nevertheless, she grows up and becomes an educated and intelligent woman who, understandably, carries remnants from her past. She meets a guy and ultimately becomes his shadow, and when he betrays her, she seeks revenge. Many messages, a lot of substance. It declares the power of will, revenge, strategy, and gives a different meaning to women with a purely feminist character, touching on many issues. Every page is worth it, but in my opinion, the twists are huge after the middle of the book. I highly recommend it!

Attention! The style has nothing to do with Lackberg's popular crime novels. It is a "crime Harlequin". It's just better than staring at your phone.

I had to read 421 pages in 8 hours since I was 16 and read "Red Hair" by Murakami. And I'm not a fan of this genre. Amazing.

It is now my favorite book! Give it a chance. Even though I am not a fan of detective books, I was able to "devour" it as if it were water. No difficulty in understanding, it immerses you directly without much fuss. Excellent book! ♡

If it wasn't a little exaggerated in some points, I would give it 5 stars. Lackberg is simply wonderful!

Description & Specifications

The revenge of a woman is beautiful and harsh.

The queen of bestsellers in Sweden, Camilla Lackberg, returns with an amazing new duology, putting aside her Fjallbacka series and the leading duo Patrick and Erica for a while. More than 23 million copies sold worldwide.

Faye seems to have it all: a perfect husband, a beloved daughter, and a luxurious apartment in the best area of Stockholm. However, dark memories from her childhood in a picturesque fishing village, Fjallbacka, haunt her, and she feels increasingly like a prisoner in a golden cage.

Once a strong and ambitious woman, she gave everything up for her husband Jack. When she discovers that he is cheating on her, Faye's world crumbles, leaving her utterly unmoored. She is literally devastated until she decides to pay Jack the exact price of his betrayal with her just revenge.

The Golden Cage is a bold novel featuring a woman who was used, betrayed, and who finally takes her fate into her own hands. A dramatic tale of deception, redemption, and revenge.

Read an excerpt

"And there's no doubt? Absolutely no doubt?"

The policewoman glanced sideways at her colleague and then shook her head negatively. She seemed to choose her words carefully:

"As I said, a forensic pathologist must evaluate the evidence at the crime scene. But at this stage, all signs point in the same direction: your ex, Jack, killed your daughter." Fay closed her eyes and stifled a sob.

Julien was finally sleeping. Her hair was spread out on the pink headboard. She was breathing calmly. Fay gently stroked her cheek, carefully so as not to wake her. Jack would return tonight from a business trip to London. Or maybe Hamburg? Fay couldn't remember. He would be tired and stressed when he arrived home, but she would make sure to relax him in the best way.

She carefully closed the bedroom door so as not to wake Julien, quietly stepped into the hallway, and checked if the front door was locked. In the kitchen, she ran her hand over the countertop. Three meters of white marble with grayish-blue veins. Carrara marble, of course. Not very practical, unfortunately, since the porous material absorbed everything like a sponge and already had a bunch of ugly stains. But Jack wouldn't be convinced to find something more convenient; it wasn't even a thought in his mind.

The kitchen of their apartment in Narvaggen had cost just under a million, without bargaining or penny-pinching. Fay took a bottle of Amaro and placed a glass on the counter. A glass on the marble surface, the sound of wine pouring and foaming... That was, in short, how her evenings went when Jack was away.
