The demand or urge for satisfaction beyond the limits set by social norms, and sometimes even beyond the limits imposed on humans as finite beings, lurks constantly behind the externally more or less orderly behavior.

From this urge, hidden dreams live, and from it, repressions and neuroses are nurtured. Sometimes it is transmuted and translated into works of the spirit, while at other times it impatiently awaits the moment when it will shake off its shackles with elemental fury and unabashedly set aside institutions and conventions.
