Reissued by IANOS Publications, the anthology of poems by Mikis Theodorakis "To be enchanted and to be drunk". Compiled by Ioulita Iliopoulou, the poems in this book cover a period of five decades, opening, as she says in her introduction, "many gates to the secret, multifaceted yet welcoming landscape of Mikis Theodorakis's thought and soul."
From the introduction by Ioulita Iliopoulou: "Public as a symbol, as a common point of reference, as a pivotal point where many roads of contemporary history, art, and human adventure intersect, Mikis Theodorakis still manages to remain the solitary private individual under a cloudy sky that, with the spontaneity of a child, names things and they follow him in the play of every moment's creation. [...] The poems are ultimately a record of the desires of his soul, the small paper-mirrors on which he looks at himself unpretentious, defenseless, and weightless. He admires, gets disappointed, mourns, waits, feels sorrow, observes, but acknowledges his debt. Tomorrow he will return. From "an uphill road, filled with warm rain that finally leads to a river." Or, alternatively, from the music. The music, Mr. Theodorakis!"
The manuscripts and sketches included in the publication come from the Mikis Theodorakis Archive, which is housed in the Great Music Library of the Friends of Music Association. The cover artwork is by Efi Xenou. This particular sketch has been published in the newspaper Ta Nea.
