Religion is understood as the revelation and realization (internally or externally) of the natural evaluative inclination of man, which is directed towards the divine, irrespective of the manner in which this is understood.
This inclination is referred to as religiosity and is, as is generally believed, inherent in humans. Worship, on the other hand, constitutes the realization of the purpose of religion, the (real or imagined) encounter of the believing subject with the object of faith, but not so much within the limits of the individual, as within the collective reference of the worshipping community to the worshipped divine.
Worship becomes an externalization of the faith and piety or the religious experience of the worshipper and the worshipping group towards the divine, to which all existence is offered, in order to achieve an encounter and tangible communion with it.
It has been aptly noted that 'the phenomenon of religious worship is one of the most significant manifestations of genuine religious experience, wherein man establishes a living personal relationship with the divine or the sacred.'
