The Nymphs of the Spirit includes three stories. Their theme is love. In these stories, Love is presented as an irresistible force, a gift from God.
Gibran believed that human nature, fundamentally, is filled with love and kindness that have, however, been eroded by wealth, tyranny, and social servitude.
In "The Ashes of the Ages and the Immortal Flame," love is portrayed as the bond that withstands beyond time and space. "Marta al-Paniya" expresses Gibran's views on the oppression of women and the poor. In the third story, "Yuhanna the Mad," Gibran contrasts the hypocrisy of religious figures with the simplicity and truth of Jesus' teachings.
