Arthur Plin is a failed, obscure writer. Just before turning fifty, he receives a wedding invitation in the mail: his ex is getting married, but he is marrying someone else!

Plin can't go to the wedding - it would be too awkward. However, he also can’t openly decline the invitation - everyone would gossip about him. He needs to find a pretext... and he finds one!

He decides to accept all kinds of invitations, the ones that writers usually receive, for second-rate conferences and mundane events around the world. From France to India, from Germany to Morocco, from Mexico to Japan, Plin will travel around the world to escape from the embarrassment.

Only that at every corner, small humiliations and shaming await him - often the product of his imagination alone. This is the price he has to pay in order to hide and make a new start in his life.
