Description

The present edition of Karl Marx's monumental work, Grundrisse, is a first-line publishing event. This vast work has incited the most intense discussions in Europe over the last three decades, becoming widely known only a century later.

Its significance is twofold. On one hand, it is an astonishing economic study that rightfully ranks among the most important works of modern times, standing alongside the writings of Smith, Ricardo, Malthus, Mills, and Keynes. On the other hand, it represents an extremely radical approach that inherently places the reading of Marx's work under a different lens than that established by the Talmudic popularizations.

The edition is presented in three volumes. The first volume contains, in addition to the Translator's Preface and the Preface of the Marx–Engels–Lenin Institute from the first edition, the Introduction and the Chapter on Money. The second volume includes the Chapter on Capital. The third volume contains the remaining materials as well as the Appendix.

The translation is directly from the German original, based on the first edition and taking into account the new reading of the manuscripts within the context of the MEGA2 edition. In fact, after its completion, the translation was subjected to systematic comparative analysis with the corresponding English, French, and Italian translations of the work.

A remarkable breadth of knowledge, a vast variety of ideas, sudden leaps of thought, unique precision and exact phrasing, warmth, passion, and boldness in expressing ideas permeate the pages of this exemplary translation and edition. An essentially unknown work of Marx that today acquires a distinctly multiple significance and makes a re-reading of the theories of the great German thinker necessary.
