Description

Colorful classes and many languages, teachers in confusion. The Greek school is no longer what it used to be. The last fifteen years have been decisive for Greece regarding the composition of the student population. The presence of a large number of repatriated and foreign students calls into question our educational system, which faces serious difficulties in meeting the, in any case, challenging task of integrating and educating the young students who, following their parents, seek a better fortune in a new homeland.

At the same time, the dialogue on the issues of Intercultural Education, which has concerned multicultural societies around the world for decades, started late in Greece. We could not avoid the theoretical misunderstandings and exaggerations that occurred elsewhere. It was only when pedagogy and the practice of teaching demanded immediate and reliable solutions that we were able to orient ourselves towards realistic and achievable goals and teaching practices.

Today, things seem more settled on a theoretical level; our gaze and attention are directed towards the classroom and the work of the teacher (both current and future) in the new, multicultural environment of the Public School.
