"The 'Wine of Gustav' is not a wine study. Although it is soaked in quite a bit of retsina, a lot of raisin, a few barrels of verdelho, and many red and white wine references, it is the product of research by a historian, who may also be a wine enthusiast.
The subject is an interpretation, the interpretation of 'learned winemaking', of oenologie savante, from the commercial layers of the raisin regions (Peloponnese and Ionian Islands), and the step-by-step achievement of wine maturity, in a geographical area where Greece experienced its own 'black fever'. After all, the Peloponnese was the largest viticultural region of the country, at least until World War II.
