Since the publication of "Evriskomena" (1859), edited by Iak. Polyla, until the interwar years, the work of D. Solomos from his mature period remained a question mark for Athenian criticism, causing unparalleled embarrassment.
The superlative judgments about Solomos, especially from the time of Palamas onwards, effectively left the poet's synthetic works out of the equation. These works conflicted with an established rule of verisimilitude from the mid-19th century in Athens, which, with minor modifications, dominated the modern Greek literary scene for many years.
The interest of this work focuses precisely on the interpretative investigation of those terms under which Solomos' mature works were essentially rejected, whether because they were "fragmentary" or because they were "unbalanced" in terms of the required harmony between imagination and thought, form and content (since the poet did not "tame" his imagination or "conquer" the language) or, finally, because they had lost their connection with real life.
