Description

Description

Colleague Professor Ioannis Th. Mazis has systematically built an interdisciplinary scientific community at the University of Athens, where he has been the head of the department for many years. Initially a geographer like many well-known geopolitical analysts, through diligent research and numerous publications, he has penetrated the fields of international relations theory and the forefront of strategic theory.

In an era where quite a few attempt "geopolitical" analyses of unbearable specifications, the book at hand proceeds with a description and comparison of geopolitical analysis that holds unique scientific claims in reference to important, if not the most significant, analysts of international relations theory. The issue is vast and certainly cannot be exhausted in a single text nor can a complete assessment be provided in the present brief introduction.

The book undoubtedly pioneering because while many analysts of international relations theory, particularly in strategic theory, refer to findings of geopolitical analysis, I am not aware of a similarly in-depth and thorough analysis of the convergence, coincidences, and interrelations. The following text additionally clarifies the systemic geopolitical analysis and the scientific horizons it opens when combined with the rest of the accrued knowledge.

I must congratulate Giannis Mazis, Markos Troulis, and Xanthippe Domatioti for their bold and pioneering exploration of an interdisciplinary comparison of the systemic geopolitical approach with the leaders of international relations theory, particularly Waltz and Mearsheimer, whose structural realism forms the axis of the scientific study of the contemporary state-centered international system.
