Description

«If you want, you can become a saint even in Omonia», said Elder Porphyrios. And he put these words into practice in his humble life by loving every person as his brother.

His journey began from Saint John of Evia, and with faith and prayer, he found himself as if in a dream in the blessed Kavsokalyvia, where he took the monastic habit. However, God did not keep him on Mount Athos. He gave him a powerful mission, deeming him worthy to fight his ascetic battle within human society.

Elder Porphyrios devoted himself with love, self-denial, and utmost humility to the service of humanity, to the service of the sick and the tormented. For thirty-three whole years, he served at the chapel of Saint Gerasimos in the Athens Polyclinic at Omonia Square, confessing the tormented souls. With his gift of foresight and insight, he helped heal the body and soul of thousands of believers. Even when he fell seriously ill, he continued to pray and support with all his being every person who sought his help.

As a true Kavsokalyvite, he did not take root in any cell. However, he did take root in the hearts of people as the saint of love, urging all of us to be one, with Christ as our head. When I leave, I will be closer to you.
