Description

About Stoic Contradictions: A critical view of Stoic philosophy. Identification of errors and contradictions, investigation of concepts from the fields of theology, ethics, and natural philosophy. Surprisingly, the Stoics of the poets say: A brief excerpt of polemics against Stoic philosophy.

The biographer and philosopher Plutarch (circa 50-120 AD) was born in Chaeronea, Boeotia. Through his travels, he broadened his intellectual horizons and came into contact with prominent figures of his time, mainly distinguished Romans. He lived most of his life in his hometown and held public priestly offices.

His surviving work is distinguished into the historical-biographical part and the so-called 'Ethical' writings. In the 'Parallel Lives', prominent Greeks and Romans are compared, indirectly comparing the worlds that each represents.

In the 'Ethics', issues of morality, philosophy, science, politics, literary criticism, as well as topics from the realms of religion, nature, history, etc., are developed, sometimes in the form of dialogues and sometimes in treatises or dissertations.

Erudite and with a delicate spirit, the author expressed traditional Greek values with simplicity and an optimistic outlook. His work delights and teaches, while being an important source of literature from classical and Hellenistic times.
