ABOUT INFERTILITY: Concerning infertile women. Diagnosis of infertility and assessment of fertility.
ABOUT VIRGINS: A brief text encouraging young girls to marry and conceive for the sake of their health.
Hippocrates was born on Kos in 460 BC. According to tradition, his lineage traced back to Asclepius and Hercules. His ancestors were kings, rulers, and priest-physicians. He initially practiced medicine in his native land and later traveled to many places. He died in Thessaly at an old age, around 90 years old.
Hippocrates marks a turning point in the history of Medicine. With him begins the era of 'scientific Medicine,' as the term science is understood today. He combines the two sources of knowledge (sensation and intellect), utilizes experience and rational thought, and adapts his treatments to the specific patient, whom he sees as a psychosomatic whole.
His teaching and work are distinguished by their moral character, the brilliance of insights, and scientific brilliance in medical practice. The unequivocally scientific nature of his work is fully confirmed by contemporary Medicine.
