One of the youngest saints is the child martyr Gabriel the Pole. Although he was only six years old, he attracted the grace of God and was deemed worthy to bear witness for His love.
Several years ago, I visited the holy Elder Fr. Ephraim Katounakiotis. I had just returned from Poland. I recounted the life of Saint Gabriel to him and gave him an icon of the saint. He looked at it with emotion, kissed it with reverence, and said to me:
- How much grace of God this little child had to be worthy to bear witness for Christ! Grace comes, makes you an angel. But our own struggle and our response to the call of grace are also needed...
