Description

In the eighth volume of the series "10 and One Decades of Political Divisions: The Divisive Cuts in Greece from 1910 to 2017," Professor Thanasis Diamantopoulos "radiographs" and analyzes the first phase of the 3rd Greek Republic, the "early Metapolitefsi," which by its nature encompassed all the characteristics of the following decades.

The collapse of the military dictatorship marked the end of a sixty-year volatile political period during which the Greek Republic – when it operated – was deficient, faltering, "puny," repressive towards anti-government figures, and perpetually interrupted.

The Metapolitefsi of 1974 heralded the dawn of a new phase characterized by unprecedented political and social consensuses: universal acceptance of the democratic regime as an inviolable value, "national anti-dictatorial unity," widespread "socialmania," and no questioning even of the non-monarchical form of governance, etc.

But there were also strong disagreements: about presidential powers, the international political orientation of the country, the compatibility of certain international connections, and even the capitalist system with the "integrated" democracy, among others.

At the same time, however, the seeds of later political and social pathologies emerged: what Professor Diamantopoulos calls "laoleihia," meaning the constant caressing by politicians and communicators of the "spotless," "immaculate," always wronged and undermined by foreign centers Greek people.
