The excavation at the Synaxis of Maroneia began in 1985 under the direction of archaeologist Charalambos Bakirtzis. From 1989, the painter Giorgos Chatzimichalis worked on the same excavation, aiming to create a painting work which he realized at the Tokos Mansion in Kavala. This book publishes in detail the painting works, as well as the achievements of the excavation 1985-1990.
