Ahdaf Soueif was born and raised in Cairo. When the Egyptian revolution erupted on January 25, 2011, she, along with hundreds of thousands of others, made Tahrir Square her home for eighteen days. She sent reports for international media and – like every fellow citizen – did whatever she could.
