Description

This book was born out of a need and a desire. Since 2016, I have systematically begun to explore the body of mainland Greece. It was the mainland that particularly captured my interest, especially the cities that were not at all or only minimally touristy.

Of course, my gaze embraced the entirety of the country from Crete to Macedonia and from Thrace to the Ionian Islands, but my need was to examine the urban repository that I felt was neglected, overlooked, undervalued, and in decline.

My great desire was defined by what I saw all these years throughout Greece. An unexploited wealth, fragments of urban culture that seemed like abandoned spoils, an immense and irregular legacy that demanded a new perspective.

The great love for Greek cities is central to my view of the world, the future, history, and the people who have lived, live, and will live. The journey continues...

The more I walked through various cities with the eyes of a traveler, the more I felt a distance from conventional ideas of beauty and picturesque scenery. There were moments in cities that are not at all touristy when I experienced that urban osmotic atmosphere that liberates you, while at the same time generating tensions and inspiring you. There were moments when I felt great satisfaction as I witnessed a personal transformation compared to the preconceived notions I had up to that point. Larissa, for example, is a city I always enjoy being in and experiencing its vibrant pulse. In this large city, I connected with people of its urban culture who shared their love for the place with me. I had a similar experience in Tripoli and Trikala, but I believe the same can happen anywhere if you approach with an open mind and good intentions.
