How sure are we that we are not playing a role at the same time we say "I avoid taking a specific position"? What assures us, even then, that our action is not theater, not directed? The criterion is based solely on the degree of personal responsibility present in our actions; only then is there a true confrontation, on our part, of individual freedom.

The young Orestes, raised in comfort and irresponsibility, far from his real family, where he should seek revenge for his father's murder, initially thinks of continuing to live carefree. However, Orestes feels a certain unease. If nothing opposes him, then nothing belongs to him. He thus returns to Argos, the city where he was born, knowing nothing of its history.

He learns of the crime he could avenge, but then social conformity intervenes in the form of Zeus. He will reject the conformity that advises him not to disrupt the social peace. Therefore, the moment he decides to act, he discovers freedom; he discovers that he can choose what shape the world takes thanks to him, even if he must pay for his responsibility. The greatness of man is based on his commitment and his willingness to be responsible for something.
