At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the Austrian Sigmund Freud, physiologist and psychiatrist, laid the foundations of psychoanalysis as a therapeutic method with his studies and revolutionized the way modern man perceives concepts such as consciousness and sexuality.
From "Totem and Taboo" onwards, Freud dealt with patricide, considering it the primal crime of humanity and the individual. In his work "Dostoevsky and Patricide" (Dostojewski und die Vatertotung, 1928), literature feeds his psychological thought.
Using the life and masterpiece of F. Dostoevsky, "The Brothers Karamazov," he again places patricide under the microscope, tracing its psychological sources and validating his psychoanalytic theories.
