In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Austrian Sigmund Freud, physiologist and psychiatrist, laid the foundations of psychoanalysis as a therapeutic method with his studies, revolutionizing the way modern humans perceive concepts such as consciousness and sexuality.
In the work Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego (Massenpsychologie und Ich-Analyse), written in 1921, Freud approaches the psychology of groups as an integral part of individual psychology. At the same time, he explores the particular elements that determine the dynamics of the group and ensure its cohesion or, conversely, lead to its dissolution.
