I do not know what each of you knows about Psychoanalysis, based on what you have read or heard. However, considering the title of my book, I feel obliged to teach you about the subject as if you knew nothing and needed instruction, even in its basic elements.

However, I will assume that you at least know one thing: that Psychoanalysis is a method of Medical treatment for those suffering from nerve disorders, and I can immediately give you an example of how the psychoanalytic process differs and is often the opposite of what is usual in other fields of Medicine.

When we typically apply a new form of therapy to a patient, we describe the difficulties as minimal and offer reassuring assurances of success. In my opinion, this is entirely justified because it ensures a higher likelihood of success.
