Regarding the matrikx pb1, it is a 0.5 micron nominal filtration with low cost and it removes sediment, dust, cysts, chlorine, lead, ammonia, and other heavy metals. It is from the American company KX Technologies and has been manufactured in India for the past 2 years. The company has 3 factories, one in America, one in India, and one in Singapore, and it has distributed production among its factories. The filter needs to be changed once a year, and it filters everything mentioned above up to 9600 liters of water. From 9600 to 22,000 liters, it only filters chlorine. It also has the necessary certifications from NSF and WQA (American quality organizations) which certify that the filter is safe and actually improves the taste and odor of water, among other things. It has NSF 42 certification, which means it improves the taste, odor, etc. of water and does not add anything harmful to the water.

Here are all the links for the certifications from the official NSF and WQA sites:

https://matrikx.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/WAT058-Matrikx-PB1-Data-Sheet-Issue-5.pdf

In the above link, you can see the durability of Matrikx in liters. It can hold 9600 liters of lead and up to 22,000 liters of chlorine, as I mentioned before.

In the link below, you can see the certifications of Matrikx on the official NSF site:

http://info.nsf.org/Certified/DWTU/Listings.asp?TradeName=Matrikx&Standard=&ProductType=&PlantState=&PlantCountry=&PlantRegion=&submit3=Search&hdModlStd=ModlStd

And below is the certification of Matrikx on WQA:

https://www.wqa.org/find-products/ctl/detail/mid/1054/cid/kx_technologies_llc/sid/52/keyword/matrikx

I use it as the first filter in my home's dual system. At first, I used it alone and it did a great job, no odors, no cloudiness, nothing...everything perfect. I have also installed it directly in my parents' house since it is very economical and cleans the water for a year. Of course, there are much better filters with many more certifications, but also at a much higher price. But for Greek water, which is theoretically one of the best, the matrikx pb1 is the best option. Be careful when you buy it, check the cartridge, make sure it is not broken from a fall or anything else. If it is broken, cracked, or anything else, it is useless.

Update: The company has renewed all models of its filters and has added greater resistance to chlorine, and many can also hold chloramines. The new pb1 holds chlorine for 114,000 liters of water, chloramines for 7,600 liters of water, cysts for 1,890 liters of water, and lead for 14,000 liters of water. Also, the new one has a slightly different label than the old one. It says "Now with chloramine and VOC reduction" in green.

Matrikx.com is the official site to see details.

For those interested in something of higher quality that can also remove nitrates, pesticides, and hexavalent chromium, they should check out my evaluation of aquametix (costs 80€). It is by far one of the strongest and best carbon filters.

Ion exchange resin, reverse osmosis, and electrodialysis are the only ways to "cleanse" water from ions (toxic and non-toxic - many are useful in proper concentrations). I laugh at such products, and those of us who have grown up in chemical-biochemical laboratories understand that besides the regular quality control of drinking water, do not expect such solutions to save you. Of course, not everyone can have ion chromatography and ICP-MS (for ions, because for organics, TOC, etc., we go elsewhere) at home to qualitatively test the water they drink. EYDAP (at least 20 years ago when I had relationships with its quality control department) thoroughly tests the water, but the network of pipes is another issue. The problem is VERY BIG in the provinces. They conduct VERY SPORADIC checks (EYDAP has water storage tanks that it tests BEFORE releasing it into the network, other areas randomly test the water every quarter ONCE). These filters only work for some soil and suspended particles. The only thing you save is a kidney. Personally, I only bought the filter for this reason (for the provinces for my own use). So when I come to Greece, I test water samples (salinity and some heavy metals, rarely microbial load) at a laboratory abroad. If you have pipes made of lead, etc., it is good to let the tap run for a while (especially in the morning when the water has more contact time with these pipes). Athens' water is generally very good and DOES NOT need filtering (the network pipes are another issue, but with such flows-consumption, good luck letting it run for a while in the morning). Now, if they privatize it too, expect problems (as many of us abroad know)

Very good filter and I immediately saw a difference compared to the previous one I had, and it is good to follow the instructions given and for safety, clean the plastic where you place the water filter so that it is clean before you put the water filter in and let the water run for 20 minutes.

The filter does an excellent job for the purpose I bought it, which was filtering out the chlorine that is very strong in my area. The downside is that it lowers the water pressure at the tap. I installed it at the main supply of the house, where there is another (simple) filter to catch the bigger particles (e.g. dirt, etc.). Maybe it should have been installed elsewhere, but it wasn't easy.

Before I had a filter on the faucet with the mk1500 torayvino replacement at 0.1μm which stopped coming to Europe.
The matrikx is at 0.5μm and I believed that maybe it has something to do with so many positive reviews and at least with a minimal NSF 42 certification.
Its taste is the same as not having a filter at all. Even the previous filter with a month more than the predicted use, the taste of the water is day and night. So we are looking for a filter at 0.1μm.

I use it in Athens, which generally has good water.
But it is definitely not for 1 year; somewhere around six months and about 2000 liters it needs to be replaced.

I opened the filter box to check the filter after 3 months and it had turned green. I don't know if this is normal but I will not use it again. Additionally, I personally did not like the taste of the water at all.

Very good filter and I immediately saw a difference compared to the previous one I had, and it is good to follow the instructions given and for safety, clean the plastic where you place the water filter so that it is clean before you put the water filter in and let the water run for 20 minutes.

The water quality after testing for 4 months is quite good and the kettle I use repeatedly has not accumulated any scale at all.

This is an affordable filter with certifications from official bodies. Compared to the previous filter I used, which cost almost more than double, I have not noticed any difference in the water regarding its smell and taste, so I will continue to choose this particular filter.

My previous filter was the antimicrobial one from Eiger. No comparison with this one. I read the reviews and the features and thought I’d give it a try.
I returned it after a few days. I didn’t like the taste of the water, especially at first I felt like it left something on my tongue, like dust.
I bought the Eiger one again

They were used for about a year each (purchased 2 pieces). The water was crystal clear and did not smell anything to me and to my family members. A visitor told me, however, that it smelled to him and he wished not to drink it. Now I am trying another filter, but I did not notice a difference from this one.
