The fifteen texts that make up the main body of the second volume Of the Lights belong to the period 1984-1999.

Their themes include popular print, the Modern Greek Enlightenment, the publishing explosion and the scholars of the 18th century, the novel of the 19th century - a genre unknown in the previous century - the Phanariotes, the translations of Robinson Crusoe and its influence as a symbol of man overcoming his fear of natural phenomena to exploit them for his benefit, the Phanariote Dimitris Katartzis and the birth of Pedagogy, the Modern Greek linguistic education and the influence of ecclesiastical language on the "commonly spoken" of Korais.
