Of the 9 previous translations, the present one dared to keep the exact same number of lines as the original. In the edition that follows, by aligning line by line, only a few times, for the sake of semantic smoothness, some lines were inverted, especially in the lyrical parts.
A translation is valid as long as it provokes thoughts in directors, composers, set designers, and actors, that is, as long as it is a dynamic text. The present translation aspired to propose a different translational ethos. Whether it has succeeded will be shown by time and its endurance in stage readings.
The reading of a drama is potentially a performance. Only if it has theatrical vitality will it endure in mere reading.
