The curtain presents, upon its opening, a dimly lit scene. The loud song of the wind can be heard, along with something resembling distant bombardment accompanied by explosions. In the depth of the scene, an old wall is visible, above which snowy mountain peaks stand out in the distance. A white glimmer shows the courtyard like a white bird caught in a net, struggling to fly.
The plaza belongs to a tropical city, which has an enigmatic yet harmonious connection with ports like Tangier, Havana, Vera Cruz, Casablanca, Shanghai, or New Orleans. To the right, the luxurious facade of the hotel 'Siete Mares,' with its low terrace filled with white tables and chairs. In a large window, two elegant mannequin dolls, one seated and the other standing, gaze out at the plaza with painted smiles. Higher up, a small balcony can be seen. To the left, opposite the hotel, lies the poor neighborhood, with the Gypsy's tent, the pawnbroker, and the seedy hotel 'Rich.'
In the background, the large arched gate of the wall and stairs lead to the unknown desolation that stretches all the way to the distant mountains. To the right and left, in the foreground, arched dead ends. As the curtain opens, a blue light falls on the theater aisle as Don Quixote descends, tired yet majestic, dressed as a wandering beggar. He is followed by Sancho Panza, loaded with a variety of disparate items—from a medieval shield to a modern thermos!
