Description

Description

In this book, the ways of conjugating the approximately 4500 basic verbs of Modern Greek (without dialectal peculiarities) are presented with the help of 235 very detailed conjugation patterns, which also mention the main variations in form, depending on the style and level of speech (oral-written, formal-informal, etc.).

This work is based not only on grammatical and lexicographic descriptions, but also on a wide range of linguistic material (corpus) of contemporary oral and written Greek speech. Thus, it allows for alternative solutions to be proposed in several points, different from those of school Grammar, solutions that more faithfully reflect the established linguistic practice and creatively exploit the findings of linguistic research.

The issue of literary verbs is treated with special attention, so as not to distort the dominant character of the Modern Greek vernacular language and not to create conflict with linguistic sensibility.
