Description

Description

The New International Order is not only political, as a result of the collapse of "existing" socialism and the corresponding end of the Cold War. Its economic and ideological dimensions are equally important. The globalization of the market economy and the universalization of the economic program of neoliberal consensus delineate its economic aspect.

Correspondingly, the postmodern mythology of the end of ideologies defines its ideological dimension. This book examines these three fundamental components of the New Order and their implications in Greece.

The consequences of the country's integration into the globalized market economy, the rise of social-liberalism in power, which aims to complete this process, and the simultaneous flourishing of a mixture of Greek Orthodox nationalism constitute significant elements of the analysis undertaken through the essays contained in this book.

Finally, the exploration of an alternative "order," defined by the parameters of political, economic, and ecological democracy, contrasts with today's "democratic" New Order, which is adopted or accepted not only by neoliberals but also by their supposed opponents in the "center-left."
