Lucullus, a greedy white elephant, eats anything and everything. One day, while he is going to visit his friend, the spotted leopard, he passes through a clearing filled with thousands of poppies and decides to eat them all.

He eats so many poppies that his color changes, from white to pink and then to poppy pink. Then, he is spotted by an elephant hunter, who catches him with a net and sells him to the circus of Grypos Agrypas, where a thousand and one troubles await him.
