Description & Specifications

The volume belongs to the series of “New Greek Folklore”. The term “new” does not imply that there is a deep rupture with the folklore of Politis and the scholarly successors. It simply aims to state that folklore, like all other human sciences, inevitably evolves, while still being a natural continuation of the previous folklore.

Evolution does not mean rupture. Moreover, especially regarding the human sciences, the more prudent one becomes over the years, the more one is convinced that renewal and evolution must be understood with the greatest possible relativity. It often happens that those who speak with excessive confidence about groundbreaking innovations, about a decisive break with the past of a science (the reference is always to the human sciences), lack the necessary oversight of what has occurred in the past.

T.S. Eliot, who based his modern poetry largely on tradition, has also written the line: “What we call the beginning is often the end.” Finally, for a new beginning in this captivating solidarity of the ages - for those who understand it.
