Traditional dances, as one of the most vibrant expressions of our Folk Culture, clearly belong to the realm of Folk Creation, which develops and is cultivated through periodic or systematic individual or group dance activities.
The many dance ensembles that have been created as products of modern social evolution, as well as the thousands of young and elderly individuals engaged in dance activities, have become the new bearers and key contributors to the Greek musical and dance tradition.
At the same time, along with the dances, a part of the social structure of traditional values is revived and reproduced, although the cultivation of the dances is mostly based on movement patterns. This results in their practice or transmission without the sense and awareness of the social conditions and prerequisites that created them.
This constitutes one of the main serious problems faced by the dances, which could perhaps be improved through broader theoretical exploration in depth, so that their essence and content can be fully expressed and better understood.
However, the inadequate theoretical processing is one of the major contemporary problems of the dances and is characterized by the absence of a comprehensive scientific knowledge.
This significant gap is partially addressed by this collective volume, which touches upon only certain theoretical parameters on a scientific basis.
