The term form factor refers to the physical size of SSDs. The motherboard must support the form factor of the SSD in order for it to be installed.

The higher speeds offered by an NVMe drive are mainly applicable to demanding applications (such as high-definition video processing, transferring large files, etc.) and are not necessary for everyday use.

M.2 (Type 2280)

The motherboard must support the form factor in order for the SSD to be installed on it. It is worth noting that M.2 drives are divided into those that use the SATA protocol and those that use PCI Express. Of the SSDs that use the PCI Express protocol, most also support NVMe technology, which allows them even faster speeds if supported by the motherboard.
