Ecology is now a social movement, cosmology, and a scientific realm. However, what is interesting is that at the level of political practice, the managerial perspective of ecology is increasingly dominating every day.

Certainly, the ecological movement and knowledge about the environment continue to expand constantly, but in the post-Rio era, it is the 'mega-management' of international organizations that is gaining ground, walking alongside 'sustainable development.' How successful this model of historical compromise between ecology and development will prove to be remains to be seen amid an intriguing scientific and theoretical dispute.
