Man first felt and then thought, first prayed and then theologized. The revelation of the living God respected this anthropological constant. And, acting humanely, it granted the thinking mind as a companion to the burning heart. So that it would not be lost on the path of boundless and multi-layered feeling.
The Psalms serve as such a compass... Poetry has always been destined for the unconventional, for the essential, for the 'precious in the sight of God' (1 Peter 3: 4). And when it receives the blessing to be uttered collectively within the framework of Worship, 'with one mouth and one heart', it accomplishes the irreplaceable task of uniting the 'precious' of the faithful into one, educating them to agree on the crucial priorities, orienting the community of their lives towards the divinely human essentials.
Towards 'the altars of the Lord of hosts' (Psalm 83: 4). A book dedicated to those who struggle in their lives in similar climates and sail in waters like those mapped by the Psalms, whether within or outside the Church.
