Every person's life, whether young or old, is an endless series of dilemmas. Should I do this or that? And what will happen if I do this and what will happen if I do the other?
When we are adults, especially when the "right path" is "obvious," things are usually, but not always, easy. Armed with knowledge and a little courage, we can relatively quickly make the right decision. With young children, however, the same does not apply simply because they lack the knowledge and experience to navigate the problems that arise before them. For this reason, we must train their thinking so that they have the knowledge to choose correctly, even when we are not there to guide them. Especially when we are not there to guide them.
In this context, both the book you are holding in your hands and the other two in the same series, namely “Therapeutic Tales” and “Therapeutic Games,” are included.
Each story in this book is also available in an illustrated edition, created by Christos Nikolaidis. These “comics” can be read directly by the child itself, bringing them closer to reading psychology and self-help books through a pleasant way rather than with a wooden language.
At the end of each story, whether written or illustrated, there are some activities that the child could do. We ask the young reader or listener to participate in the story with their own ideas by writing or saying what they would do in the hero's position. Moreover, because the image is a stronger medium, we ask the child to draw the heroes in motion (for example: what they like to do), to name them, or even to give their own ending to the story. This interactive participation helps, among other things, with two very essential things:
A. To empower the child's self-confidence and
B. To better memorize the essence, that is, the lesson of the story.
If you choose to narrate the story, read it theatrically, with passion. At the end, ask the suggested questions to the children and also ask your own, as long as they are open-ended (how, why, can you describe...) and not closed (that is, where the answer is YES or NO). Finally, have the children create their own comic, either with the same story or with the variation they prefer, and when they finish, discuss it.
