The life of every person, whether young or old, is an endless series of dilemmas. Should I do this or that? And what will happen if I do this and what will happen if I do that? When we are adults, especially when the "right path" is "obvious," things are usually, but not always, easy.
Equipped with knowledge and a little courage, we can relatively quickly make the right decision. However, this is not as simple with young children because they do not have the knowledge or experience to manage the problems that arise in front of them. For this reason, we need to train their thinking so that they have the knowledge to choose correctly, even when we are not there to guide them, especially when we will not be there.
Within this framework fits both the book you hold in your hands and the other two in the same series, namely "Therapeutic Tales" and "Therapeutic Games." Each story in this book is also available in an illustrated edition by Christos Nikolaidis. These "comics" can be read directly by the child itself, thereby bringing them closer to reading psychology and self-help books in an enjoyable way and not with wooden language.
At the end of each story, whether written or illustrated, there are some activities that the child could do. We ask the young reader or listener to participate in the story with their own ideas by writing or saying what they would do in the hero's place in the story. Moreover, since the image is a more powerful medium, we ask the child to draw the heroes in action, name them, or even provide their own ending to the story.
This interactive participation helps, among other things, in two very fundamental aspects: A. Strengthening the child's self-confidence and B. Better memorization of the essence, that is, the lesson of the story. If you choose to narrate the story, read it theatrically, with passion. At the end, ask the suggested questions to the children and also ask your own, as long as they are open-ended (how, why, can you describe...) and not closed (i.e., where the answer is YES or NO).
Finally, have the children create their own comic, either with the same story or with their preferred variation, and when they finish, discuss it. The book was published in a limited number of copies under the title "Therapeutic Activities." It had 3 reprints, sold out immediately, and is now being reissued with the necessary changes and a hardcover in perfect print quality.
