This book was written to counter the widely held perception that the Greek city, as expressed in its supreme example, Athens, is a forced place of exile for its inhabitants, inhospitable and devoid of content.
The reversal of the negative climate against the contemporary city directly leads to the ways we experience it, and thus to how we intervene in a "rescue" manner to improve it. Therefore, we seek new ways of "reading" the city that reveal the internal logic of its once terrifying contradictions, capable of being codified into intervention methods.
We live in an era deeply influenced by occasional stimuli belonging to the culture of fragmentation and the omnipotence of the image. Static or moving, the image follows its own laws, which it subsequently imposes everywhere. Thus, the addiction created by the techniques of new communication media also determines how we ultimately perceive what happens around us.
The world surrounding us has definitely changed compared to what existed in the past. If we accept the combination of these two elements, the fragmented and the image, we can argue that the logic inherent in the fragmentation of the image predominates in contemporary everyday life.
Thus, we observe the fragmentation of time and the reassembly of its fragments in a different order, so as to serve meaningful rather than realistic demands. In this book, we deliberately follow the necessity of the image, literally and metaphorically, that is, by mimicking the properties of the image with language.
The tools used here are the image itself as representation and the text-excerpt as a legitimate point of reference.
