The boundaries of pornography - the representation of commercial love in ancient Greeks - are constantly changing. Referring some to the most disgusting and obscene aspects of satisfying sexual pleasures, while providing others with the opportunity to enjoy the spectacle of these multiple carnal delights, pornography is fueled, we would say, by the feelings it evokes, whether we condemn it or defend it.

This first "Dictionary of Pornography" does not aim at either glorifying or stigmatizing it. Our only ambition, starting from often contradictory positions, is to have a better understanding of a cultural practice that remains private and marginal, but whose industrialization and media exposure are unprecedented in our days.

Pornography is, therefore, an object of knowledge, as shown by the 450 entries of this work, followed by references to related terms, as well as bibliographic, filmographic, and internet references that allow everyone to continue their personal research. In this unprecedented critical work, the result of collective work by an international team of about a hundred authors, we will find articles on substance and composition, biographies, and the necessary practical definitions. The multifaceted cultural and artistic history, political and ethical philosophy, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychoanalysis, constitute equivalent complementary methods of approaching a phenomenon that concerns all human societies.

The "Dictionary of Pornography" was published in France by the French University Press (PUF), aspiring to broaden all aspects of our world, and pornography is, whether we like it or not, part of our world and its current events.
