Description

My name is Demetra and I am the goddess of agriculture. Most of the time, I help people in the fields. I also have my daughter Persephone with me. When winter comes with its cold, my daughter goes to the Underworld. There, her terrible husband, Pluto, stays. During these months, I stay alone at home and wait. I wait for spring to bring back joy and life, to bring back Persephone.

My name is Dimitra and I am a farmer. People adore me because I taught them how to cultivate the land. "You are a goddess," they tell me. I laugh. I like to laugh. And when I laugh, all of nature laughs with me, blossoms, fills with green, fills with colors and scents. When spring comes, it tells the earth: "Wake up, wake up." And the earth wakes up and is ready to bear fruit. And if you plant a few wheat seeds in the soil, the field fills with golden ears waving in the breeze. Of all the seasons, I love spring the most. In spring, everything begins again from the start. The snow melts and disappears, the waters nourish the earth, and the seeds hidden inside it swell and sprout. The trees grow green leaves, and I step onto the doorstep and wait. I wait for my daughter, who is away. Her name is Persephone. Every spring she comes. Alone, without her unbearable husband.
