Description

The story began with a Company, which inspired and organized the revolution. It was a Company of expatriates, a fellowship of merchants and servants, of humble origin, and in those days, the humble could not start a revolution. They therefore entrusted it to those who could start it, to the expatriate aristocrats – the princes of Russia, the princes of Constantinople, exiles and non-exiles – to the prominent figures, to the archbishops.

Many of them shared the vision of a free homeland. The revolution started awkwardly, as revolutions usually do. It sought to gain state and power away from the homeland to defeat the tyrant. It designed ambitious strikes within the very capital of the enemy. Complex, difficult movements that failed, closing the circle of the Company and the visions of those who followed it.

Afterward, the case for freedom was taken up by the prominent figures and the hierarchs of Morias, the ship owners of the islands, the armed men of Roumeli. However, to succeed, they needed their people. It could not happen without them. They needed the many Greeks, those who hated the tyrant as much as their own misery, who did not read Enlightenment thinkers, but within them burned the common desire for freedom.

With blood and pain, the people nourished the Struggle. On these materials, the free Greek state was built within which we live today. It did not become ideal, as many dreamed. However, it was the homeland within which the many could dream of a better future.

This book deals with the intricate history of the Greek Revolution, shedding light on the background, and highlighting unknown heroes and hidden protagonists, through a grand and compellingly told story.
