Description

The Physical Chemistry by Atkins is perhaps the most internationally recognized undergraduate textbook in its field. The author team continually strives to refresh the book's content, following the progress of science and integrating many modern applications of physical chemistry.

A significant emphasis has been placed on improving how the structure of the book aids in studying it. Thus, in this new translation into Greek (from the eleventh English edition), the organization of the material has been modified so that instructors have greater flexibility in designing the course and students are facilitated in their studies.

Several helpful comments have also been added to the flow of equations, the brief applications have been enriched, while the necessary mathematical background is presented in special inserts in the corresponding section. The breadth of topics covered is very large.

Initially, the concepts of thermodynamics and their applications are presented, with studies on phase transitions, chemical equilibrium, and electrochemistry. Subsequently, the principles of quantum mechanics are developed, through which the structure of atoms and molecules is examined.

This knowledge, combined with the study of molecular symmetry, is used to interpret atomic and molecular spectra. Following this, statistical thermodynamics is presented, along with the study of molecular interactions and the properties of solids.

Finally, chemical kinetics, the dynamics of chemical reactions, the action of catalysts, and processes on solid surfaces are studied. The presentation of concepts continues to be made in a simple manner, without overlooking scientific rigor.

The numerous examples, solved exercises, as well as the rich collection of unsolved exercises and problems with graded difficulty assist in this direction. Many of the unsolved problems draw data from the results of real experiments, thus giving the reader the opportunity to perceive the direct relationship that always exists in the physical sciences between theory and experiment.

    Very interesting book!
The problem is that it does not have answers or solutions for the existing exercises at the end of the book. The answers are available on the suggested website from the book (as a PDF file) but only for the exercises with an odd number.
Other than that, it is highly explanatory in all the theory and proofs of the relationships.
