Description

Is achieving well-being a long-term life goal, or is it a daily way of living life? Or perhaps both? Can one learn to thrive, or is well-being dependent solely on external factors, such as our genes, the way we were raised, the society we live in, or the financial resources we have?

During our lives, can we only have moments of well-being, or can we, in the modern evolution of humanity, hope that we have the means to appease our "demons," in the sense of Aristotle's eudaimonia, so that we can thrive and develop both as individuals and as societies?

Does achieving well-being require us to have health, or is well-being a prerequisite for promoting our mental and physical health?

These questions are addressed by the book Conquering Well-Being: Positive Interventions, Techniques, and Experiential Exercises in a theoretically and empirically substantiated, yet user-friendly and accessible manner for the general public. The book represents an innovation in the existing literature on the promotion of mental health and personal and collective development, as it compiles a wealth of positive interventions, techniques, and experiential exercises that have been founded, applied, and evaluated within the international scientific community.

The book includes a plethora of techniques and experiential exercises with specific guidelines for practical application for individuals and groups. Additionally, it makes special reference to the positive interventions applied in health care, organizations and workplaces, education, family, and community.

As well-being is ultimately a commodity cultivated throughout life, the book particularly focuses on the role of positive education in promoting well-being within the broader school community, at all levels of education. The goal of the book is not to propose a modus operandi, but to offer the general public, professionals involved in promoting mental health and personal and collective development (psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, educators, occupational therapists, etc.), as well as students of the humanities and social sciences, those practical tools that, with appropriate framing, can contribute to the promotion of well-being, both at an individual level and in terms of positive relationships with others and functioning of groups.

The authors of the volume: Eleni Gastouniotou, Vasilis Giotsidis, Katerina Zymni, Dimitris Theodossakis, Konstantinos Kanellakis, Irini Karakassidou, Aimilios Karamanlis, Katerina Kotsoni, Fani Koudigelei, Agathi Lakioti, Maria Malikioti-Loizou, Anny Benetou, Antonis Tsirikos, Anna Papadimitriou, Christos Pezirkianidis, Irini Petraou, Christina Sergiani, Anastasios Stalikas, Vicky Charalambous.
