Description

This book deals with the history of the first Governor of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias. At the same time, it is a journey through the pre-revolutionary and revolutionary Greek world, from the Greek peninsula to Vienna and Trieste, Odessa, and St. Petersburg.

Through its pages, the critical revolutionary dilemmas faced by Hellenism in the early 19th century are highlighted, the decisions made, and their consequences. However, the contradictions and opposing forces that existed led to the assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the "lamb" of the Resurrection of the Greeks.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE SERIES

The Greek Revolution is justifiably ranked among the great revolutions that marked the era of Modernity. The completion of two hundred years since its outbreak has rightly heightened the interest of modern Greeks to learn about its main characteristics. This new series aims in that direction as well.

By portraying the figures of five of the leading personalities of the Greek Revolution (Theodoros Kolokotronis, Ioannis Kapodistrias, Petrombeis Mavromichalis, Rigas Feraios, Bouboulina) and analyzing five of the key themes related to it (The plan and outbreak of the Revolution, The constitutions of the Struggle, Internal strife and conflicts, From the Massacre of Chios to the Exodus of Messolonghi, The role of the Great Powers in the Revolution), it aims to contribute to public history and the dialogue about the character and forms of the Resurrection of the Greeks.

The volumes of the series are authored by distinguished historians and specialists, adhering to the rules of scientific research.

He was only 39 years old and had already reached the highest professional position of his diplomatic career. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was under his direction from 1816 to 1822. The policy of the Austrian Prime Minister Clemens Wenzel Nepomuk Lothar, Prince von Metternich (1773-1859), was the prevention of revolutions, while the czar's aim, whose country had suffered the heaviest blow from the Napoleonic wars, was the preservation of peace. Kapodistrias was in favor of maintaining peace, but not at any cost. England, under Castlereagh (Viscount Robert Stewart, Marquess of Londonderry, 1769-1822), pursued an opportunistic policy, aligned with British interests. Of the three counterparts, Castlereagh was more committed than Parliament in exercising policy.
