Description

Bilbo Baggins is a good-natured middle-aged hobbit who enjoys without guilt the small pleasures of a comfortable everyday life: he smokes his pipe sitting in front of the fire and enjoys his nice meal. However, his tranquility is suddenly interrupted when one day the wizard Gandalf and a group of dwarves appear at his doorstep, doing everything they can to lure him into an adventure with incalculable consequences for everyone.

Their plan is to seize the treasure guarded by the Dragon Smaug, with whom Thorin Oakenshield, a member of the dwarves' company and heir to the Kingdom of the Dwarves, has unfinished business from the past. Bilbo Baggins has no desire to leave his idyllic village of the Shire. However, regarding his ancestry, Bilbo is half Took, a dreamer lineage that craves heroic exploits.

Thus, the prospect of the journey awakens his hidden self and prompts him to agree and participate in an adventure that exceeds all imagination. The prelude to the monumental trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" is a unique fantasy adventure and at the same time an unforgettable heroic tale that has captivated and enchanted both young and old for many decades.

HOBBIT = masterpiece, honestly you feel sad when the story ends, you want to know more about how Bilbo spends his time in the Shire, you don't want it to end. I read it in 4 days and that was with a lot of patience not to finish it faster, now I will go in order, next is The Fellowship of the Ring.

In my subjective opinion, it is definitely a more enjoyable and light read than The Lord of the Rings, without it being automatically bad or good. Start with this for sure.

A masterpiece for young and old. Excellent plot, very interesting characters, and an amazing background (a whole world to explore, languages, etc.) that encourages the reader to delve deeper into the world created by Tolkien and read more. Those who read it because they liked Peter Jackson's trilogy will find a completely different narrative, without the ridiculous exaggerations that Hollywood imposes for the sake of... consumption and conformity of popcorn eaters.

This book is fantastic. It has many differences from the movie but I think it's worth reading. It was written about a hundred years ago, so it has many differences in writing style that we know. Tolkien may seem slow or boring at times, maybe he is, maybe not, but I'm not here to judge that because he is the only one who describes everything with the slightest detail. Read it if you like stories with imagination, fantasy worlds, elves, adventures, journeys, and magic. Read it because I truly believe it's worth it.
