Except for a few violent reactions to this devastating disaster, which was much later named the Middle Ages of the Womb (i.e., arson of public buildings, destruction of monuments and national symbols, murderous attacks against individuals whom the attackers considered responsible for the misfortune that had befallen them), all others, accustomed to restraint, suppressed their despair and confined their panic outbursts, which made them shred their pillows with their teeth, to private spaces.
