Description

Description

The book publishes and comments on the oldest register of the Serres area in Western Macedonia, the code TT 986, which dates back to the years 1498-1502.

At the same time, information is also drawn from other surviving registers of the 16th century to provide as complete a picture as possible of the Serres area during the so-called golden age of the Ottoman Empire.

This study gives the reader the opportunity to understand how the Ottomans managed to establish their dominance through an extensive colonization of the area by Turkish nomadic tribes, the Yörüks, the implementation of the timar system, as well as the ideological conversion to Islam.
