Description

The play "The Koligades" by Minás Vitiádis and Yórgos Dardanos narrates the history of the rebellion of the Koligades of Andros at the beginning of the Revolution of 1821, which led to the people's seizure of power, while the local nobility, with feudal privileges from the Frankish rule, turned for help to the Turks, and later to the Temporary Administration of the Struggle, specifically to the "governor of the islands" Konstantínos Metaxás, and the movement collapsed.

The revolutionary movement in Andros had the class character of an agrarian uprising, in contrast to the various and complex motivations of the uprising in other areas. Also original is the close connection of the matter with the Andros philosopher and educator, clergyman and Enlightenment figure, later also excommunicated, Theófilos Kaïris.
