This book aims to analyze the course of the Greek economy after the 1974 transition. It focuses on the factors that determined this course and led the Greek economy to the great crisis of the 2010s, before and after the introduction of the euro.
It also seeks to explore the possibilities for the Greek economy to recover while remaining in the eurozone, especially after the new global economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The main argument of the book, which is substantiated by an analysis of the available data and evidence, is that the crisis of the period after 2010, which led to the prolonged "great recession," had been brewing for at least three decades and that its deeper causes were not merely economic, but also social, structural, institutional, and political.
The book concludes with the key areas of reform needed for a sustainable recovery of the Greek economy after the end of the pandemic crisis, without the weaknesses, oscillations, and crises of recent decades.
